In a recent interview with Punch, Seun Kuti again reiterated his publicly-held views on marriage and expressed his opinion about the Marriage institution saying he does not believe in the institution of ownership where one is mutually owned by the other in a binding contract called matrimony. Although, he has a daughter, he was also reported to have said that he can never marry any woman, even his baby mama.
He also quipped that people are making a profit out of the other party’s love. The institution of marriage is indeed commercialized in most parts of the world today where the cost of tying the bond is getting higher and higher. What was then a sacred and ancient institution is now very much a business venture for many looking to make a swift and bountiful profit.
The controversial singer who is still single in his 30’s had also previously talked about the impact of divorce on the children and said:
“Before you divorce yourselves over every dumb little thing, can you please think about the effect on your child? Remove your selfish clothes and put on the garment of empathy. It really breaks the little ones and if I am ever in a position to decide legislation, it will be law that as long as a child has been brought into this world in a married institution; the said couple have to be married till the child is 18!”
“I think people will then realize that children are more important than your ego! Love your kids people,” he concluded.
