Golden Icons Academy Movies Awards (GIAMA) in its first year will celebrate the achievements of African Movie Stars. The best talents in African movies will converge in Houston, Texas for a night of extravagance, glamour and glitter that comes with the movie industry. The eligibility period is from the 1st of January, 2011 to the 30th of April, 2012. GIAMA consist of 26 nomination categories, all created to recognize and celebrate actors, directors, producers, script writers, and executive producers that have greatly influenced the African Film Industry.
The concept of the GIAMA Awards is designed to resonate with African movie lovers in the Diaspora, especially in the United States and Canada as well as lovers of African movies throughout the world. It will serve as a forum for creating a platform that will ensure continuous rewarding of individuals that have exemplified competence, diligence and innovation in the African film making profession. GIAMA’s sole focus is to reward excellent movies produced in Africa, or by Africans in the Diaspora.

NOMINATION SUBMISSIONS FOR THE GIAMA AWARDS ARE OPEN FROM April 4, 2012 – through May 23, 2012
Interested film makers, actors, directors, producers, executive producers can be residents of any African country, or an African descendant living in the Diaspora, in order to be considered eligible, with the exception of 2 viewers choice categories sectioned out for the Hollywood industry.
