According to Hollywood Reporters as reported by Time, the action packed movie ‘Furious 7‘ smashed the box office this year with a whopping gross sales of $385 million internationally. The movie which is franchised from the earlier popular ‘Fast and Furious’ has set a high record in sales and Universal Picture has gained handsomely from an earlier strategy to make the film more multi-ethnic by including a multi-racial cast of actors.
People like to see characters who look like them represented in the movies, and Fast & Furious is currently the only major action franchise that boasts of a truly diverse cast, which is probably why it instantly became a box office hit.
Hollywood Reporter also stated that by casting a diverse cast, the proceeds from the movie so far have been mostly from non white audiences that made up 75% of the viewers. Quoting from the statistics of Motion Picture Association of America, the Hollywood Magazine breakdown of the audience into their ethnic group as follows: Hispanic (37%), Caucasian (25%), African American (24%) and Asian (10%).
The international cast and global shooting locations in this film — Dominican Republic, Japan, Abu Dhabi and London — have also drawn a massive global audience.
