Big Brother Africa lovebirds, Elikem and Pokello, popularly known as Polikem tied the knot traditionally in a ceremony that took in Pokello’s home-country, Zimbabwe in the presence of several family and close friends. The bride price paid by the groom for a Zimbabwean bride is usually pretty high, which Elikem recently confirmed!
In a recent interview with peacefmonline.com, Elikem Kumordzi revealed that he paid a bride price of $25,000 (US dollars and not Zimbabwean dollars) as bride price for Pokello.
“I paid a lot of money and before you pay such money for a lady’s hand in marriage you have to be sure she’s the one. Otherwise you will be a silly young man throwing a lot of money away. So it feels good to be married to the right woman. It feels amazing. No mistakes or regrets whatsoever”, Elikem revealed.
“I initially didn’t want to make this information public but people are getting figures wrong so I want to correct it. The lobola (Bride price for a traditional marriage in Zimbabwe) was 25,000 US Dollars. A deposit of 20,000 US Dollars was paid on Saturday and the 5,000 US Dollars balance is to be paid by the white wedding”.
Since a couple waits for months or even years before having their white wedding in Zimbabwean culture, the Ghanaian Actor/Fashion Designer does not expect their white wedding to take place right away, but indicated that the white wedding ceremony would take place both in Zimbabwe and Ghana on separate dates.
Here are photos from the traditional wedding ceremony which took place on Saturday, June 20, 2015!
