Police Officer Ashley Guindon, 29, of the Prince William County who was sworn in on Friday and started her first shift on Saturday, got shot and died from her injuries.
The Alleged suspect, a military serviceman, ‘murdered his wife and then ambushed the officers with a rifle as they approached the scene’, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, Corey Stewart, also confirmed the other woman was killed by the suspect.
Stewart also said there was a child in the house during the incident who was not harmed.
Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney Paul Ebert says he has authorized a capital murder charge, along with other counts, against the suspect, who has not been identified.
According to the Daily Mail, The officers were investigating a domestic dispute when a shooting happened.
‘It is with profound sadness that we announce that Prince William County Police Officer Ashley Guindon, one of the officers involved in this evening shooting on Lashmere Ct, has died as a result of her injuries sustained during the incident. The investigation into the shooting is still underway and the remaining two officers wounded during the encounter are continuing to be treated for their injuries.
‘We ask for everyone’s thoughts and prayers as our department deals with this tragic loss. We also ask for continued patience as we learn more about this incident,’ the Prince William County Police Department wrote on its Facebook.
The suspect wanted for the shootings is in police custody.
Yesterday the police department had tweeted out a welcoming to Guindon as she started her first shift.
‘Welcome Officers Steven Kendall & Ashley Guindon who were sworn in today & begin their shifts this weekend.
‘Be safe!’ it said.
Guindon had a degree in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master’s degree from George Washington University in forensic science.
She served in the military from 2007 to 2013 as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.
It was no immediately made clear the extent of the officers’ injuries and if anyone else was hurt during the shooting.
Prince William County, where Woodbridge is located, is a suburb 30 minutes outside Washington, D.C., has a relatively low crime rate.
