According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the ex-wife of oil tycoon “Harold Hamm” who is currently involved in a messy divorce with Hamm has rejected his check of approximately $975 million which was meant to be payment to satisfy the judge’s recent divorce decree.
Ms. Arnall who is an economist and lawyer and had previously held executive positions at Hamm’s company, Continental Resources, was reported to have rejected the settlement check because she believes she should be getting more from the divorce since she assisted her billionaire ex-husband and Chief Executive Officer of Continental Resources in amassing his fortune.
WSJ further reported that “Ms. Arnall, who was also awarded two homes, a ranch and other assets worth several million dollars, is appealing the judge’s divorce ruling, saying it shortchanges her 26-year marriage to the wildcatter. She is seeking a divorce settlement of several billion dollars.”
Hamm, who has an estimated $19 billion net worth that may have declined as a result of falling oil prices appealed the ruling, and said the almost $1 billion settlement was “erroneous and inequitable,” Reuters reported last week.
Judge Howard Haralson was also reported to have said that the ruling in this case will not be changed but alimony could be awarded to Arnell in the future and the final decision on this case is now within the jurisdiction of the Appeals Court and the Oklahoma Supreme Court. “We knew at the time of trial that oil prices were plummeting, I see the relationship between the price of oil and the price of stock,” Haralson said.
