According to Mirror.uk, former football great John Fashanu claimed that his estranged wife Abigail Onyekwelu had attempted to kill him with a knife after discovering his infidelity on bed with two women.
The retired England and Wimbledon striker who was also the host for the Gladiators England television series said that Abigail came after him with a knife and tried to kill him after a row. He also said that his estranged wife had stolen thousands of pounds from his home and all she wants is money from him and nothing else.
The football legend has categorically denied that he also slept with their maid as alleged by Abigail and said that there are plenty of better woman he can have sexual relationships with rather than stooping low to having sex with a house servant.
“My life was at stake, there’s no two ways about that.
“Even if you did think I was sleeping with the maid, or even if you thought I was sleeping with Miss Nigeria, don’t kill me! Just leave me and go. The violence was just too much.”

Fashanu also alleged that he had caught his estranged wife in bed with another woman whom she claimed to be her spiritual adviser. However, Abigail, a qualified lawyer has rubbished the 6ft 2in former football legend’s claim that she tried to kill him with a knife.
“John’s saying I tried to kill him? Oh my God, this is so funny. I don’t quite understand all this.
“How can I kill him? How can somebody like me kill this huge man who is an expert in karate. I don’t understand how I can kill him.
John Fashanu has an illustrious career behind him having served as Nigeria Ambassador to the UN, former UNICEF Ambassador for 53 African countries and a former board member of Nigeria football Association.
Though having an illustrious sport career, no one is immune from personal tragedy. In 1998, his brother Justin Fashanu, another professional footballer committed suicide after he came out as Britain’s first gay professional footballer. After his brother’s suicide, Fashanu expressed remorse for disowning him at the time because of his homosexuality.
