Michael Igbinedion, the younger brother of former Edo state governor, Lucky Igbinedion has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for N25 billion money laundering related charges, Punch reports.
Michael, alongside Mr Patrick Eboigbodin, who was an aide to the Ex-Governor were brought before a federal high court in Benin city on an 81 count charge related to money laundering, which was carried out while Lucky Igbinedion was the Edo State Governor.
Justice A.M Liman however sentenced Michael Igbinedion to 6 years imprisonment with an option of paying N3m or N1m for each of the three counts 79, 80 and 81, he was found guilty of to avoid going to jail. Mr Eboigbodin was however sentenced to 20 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The four companies used by the accused for money laundering activities are: Romrig Nigeria Limited, Gava Corporation Limited, PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited to launder money.
