British singer Elton John who is a well known gay activist and publicly seen with his husband David Furnish and their sons, Zachary and Elijah is embroiled in a social media spat with the owners of D&G.
The Italian fashion house is owned by a gay couple named Domenico Dolce and Stefane Gabbana and they had sparked a public spat a few days ago by posting on Instagram a message that they were against conceiving babies via Into vitro fertilization (IVF) and support the traditional way of conceiving babies. The Italian couple also called babies conceived via IVF as synthetics. This sparked an outrage from Elton John whose sons were conceived this way and the singing icon has called for the boycotting of all D&G products.
“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic’? Elton John posted.
“And shame on you for wagging you judgmental little fingers at IVF… a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children.
“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions.
“I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”
Elton John’s call for a boycott of the Italian fashion house was joined by a slew of other celebrities such as Ricky Martin, Victoria Spice Beckham, Courtney Love, Matt Lucas, Chloe Price, Ruth Hunt and others. However, Gabbana responded back via another Instagram posting saying that he and his gay partner were just expressing their opinion with a message ‘Jesuis D&G’. He then retaliated by calling for the boycott of Elton John as well.
However, the Italian LGBT association, Archigay has the following message to the squabbling celebrities :
“Their position is personal and it contradicts the global movement for adoption and gay rights.
“Gay people have the right to be considered equal to others, in bringing up a child.”
