We were all super-elated when Nollywood actor cum director and politician, Desmond Elliot won the Lagos state house of assembly seat, representing Surulere Constituency 1, a few weeks ago. Click here if you missed it! Elliot is also the only entertainer that successfully contested and won a political office during Nigeria’s 2015 general elections.
In a telephone chat with HVP, shortly after the victorious win as reported by Vanguard, Elliot expressed his joy at the victory and said he was looking forward to a successful tenure in the position:
“I’m looking forward to a successful tenure”, he said.
“I feel I’m a representation of the youths, a generation that wants the change we are clamouring for….because I know it’s not going to be an easy task. It’s something I’ve been begging Him (God) for a long time and now the opportunity has come. So, with God’s help and hard work, we will succeed.” Continued Desmond.
“I look forward to a successful tenure, providing social amenities best way I can for my constituency: representing them well in the house and making sure that Nollywood which is also my constituency thrives as far as Lagos State is concerned.
“I will still be making films, but not as an actor because I am representing people’s interest. I have to be very careful about what I do now,” he said.
