On occasion of his 67th birthday on Wednesday, 8th April, Senate President, David Mark gave his uncompromising stance even in the change of fortune and called those who have defected to the opposition party as “fair weather friends.”
The Senate President gave this remark in the wake of the conclusion of the Presidential election and a raft of defections from the People Democratic Party (PDP) party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following President Jonathan’s defeat.
“If I will be the last man standing, I will remain in PDP, defectors are fair weather friends,” the statement in part reads
The defection of ‘fence sitters’ in the changing fortune of a political party is not a new phenomena and has happened in every country following the defeat of the party in the polls. The ‘rank and file’ just pack up and hitch their fortune with the winning party so that the rewards of position and monetary gain would continue.
