A Czech politician with the name Vit Jedlicka claimed he is the first President of a new country he recently founded in Europe called ‘Liberland.’ The new country sits on a small wedge of land between Serbia and Croatia and the total land mass is only 3 square mile, according to a source from Times.
Vit, 31 is a member of the Czech Republic conservative party of Free Citizen. According to him, as interviewed by Time, over 100,000 people have already applied for citizenship since the website is open to the public with the same namesake. The website said that taxes are optional and the country is a sovereign nation that does not interfere with the domestic affairs of neighboring States. It also stated that it has no military and does not seek to have military aggression against anyone.
“The objective of the founders of the new state is to build a country where honest people can prosper without being oppressed by governments making their lives unpleasant through the burden of unnecessary restrictions and taxes,” reads a statement announcing the creation of the new country on the website. The country’s motto is: “To live and let live.”
Vit further said that he expects the new country to model after Liechtenstien , a small country of 62 square miles that sits between Switzerland and Austria with a population of 35,000. He expects his new country to have an ideal population around the same size as Liechtenstien and has shared that many applicants for citizenship will be disappointed as he will be very selective in the approval process.
