According to The Independent, it all started at 9am on July 9, when a man from Toronto found a dead raccoon on the sidewalk to animal services.
Jason Wagar then tweeted to animal services about the corpse; and they immediately replied and promised to do something about it. Sadly, the raccoon’s body was still left unattended to after six hours. This led to some reactions from some passers-by, as they started to leave roses and condolence cards.
Wagar then tweeted again to complain to animal service about their negligence of the matter. Using the hash tag #DeadRaccon, word got around to several Toronto residents about the situation. Several people then got involved, including the City Councillor, Norm Kelly and other touched citizens.
A candlelit vigil was also conducted later in the day, with a donation box seeking to raise enough money for animal services to take him away.
Finally, at 11 p.m., animal services removed the dead raccoon.
The care given to animals in most developed countries is quite interesting!
