Microsoft founder and world’s richest man, Bill Gates, while at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland recently, said that HIV vaccines would be a reality in 15 years time. “We’re pretty optimistic in this 15-year period we will get those two new tools,” he said.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a generous giver of aids and has spent hundreds of millions to eradicate the HIV menace, particularly in the African continent. AIDS has claimed millions of lives since it was first diagnosed 30 years ago. The disease was the single largest killer of any epidemic during this timeline until a retro-viral medication that delayed the onset of AIDS from HIV infection was discovered several years ago. However, anti retro-viral medication does not cure HIV or stop it from infecting others. It merely prevents the virus from multiplying to a critical load that cause AIDS.
