According to NBC News, Bill Cosby’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not going anywhere, no matter how much pressure is put on the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce following sexual assault allegations.
The Chamber, which awards the stars, confirmed it has gotten several requests to remove Cosby’s star, which has been engraved on the 6900 block of Hollywood Boulevard since it was awarded in 1977. But, president and chief executive of the chamber, Leron Gubler has a simple response on the mounting requests:
“The answer is no.”
Gubler further noted in a statement that the Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark, stating the following:
“Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Although the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is standing firm on their stance, other institutions haven’t been so lenient. Disney removed Cosby’s statue from Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, last week and his bust from its Hollywood Studios theme park. Several colleges and universities that have either awarded him honorary doctorates or have been the recipient of his fundraising have severed ties with him.
In addition, several members of Congress are supporting a petition to revoke the Presidential Medal of Freedom that Cosby was awarded in 2002.
This is such a fall from grace to grass for a man once revered across the world as ‘Americans favorite Dad!’
