A mother in Baltimore went an extraordinary mile in expressing her love for her son by smacking him for joining in the violent protests following Freddie Gray’s funeral, after seeing him with the other rioters on national television. Gray is currently the nation’s latest act of police brutality who died from spinal cord injury while in police custody. Maryland’s governor had to enlist the National Guard on Monday, while the city of Baltimore announced a curfew for all residents following the turbulent day by the protesters. The mother later went to where the crowd of rioters were to find her son and she smacked him before the press cameras covering the rioting, according to ABC News.
“Are you kidding me?” she was heard saying.
ABC did not identify the mother and son by name but the incident was recorded on video.
According to ABC News contributor and former FBI agent Steve Gomez, an individual mother-and-child incident like this one is the best way to get violent groups to listen.
“If you get them separated, and you get their family member, someone they respect, to lay into them,” he said. “I don’t think that they’re going to listen to anybody other than their parents or someone in their family that they respect.”
