According to Pulse, a Lagos-based multiple award winning pharmacist and church youth leader committed suicide on Sunday, 12th April, after suffering depression arising from his business indebtedness.
Paul Olafare, a father of two was described by friends as an amicable and deeply religious man who spent a great deal of time as a mentor to the youth group of one of the largest Pentecostal church in the country.
According to Pulse, since acquiring his own practice, he had gone into depression due to harassment from creditors who constantly requested repayment for the incurred debts.
Olafare, a graduate of Medicine from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, was awarded the Lagos State Pharmacist of the Year 2013.
According to a family friend, Olafare had attempted killing himself several times in the past and had once threatened to jump into the Lagos Lagoon but was stopped by his wife.
He finally successfully killed himself last Sunday after allegedly consuming poison. So sad…
