During spring break at a Florida beach last month, a 19 year old woman was reportedly gang raped after blacking out behind a popular beach bar and club, said the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, LA Times reports.
The incident occurred in broad daylight last month at the peak of spring break at the Panama City Beach, where over 300,000 college students were visiting for around-the-clock parties in March and April. The assault was actually video recorded in front of hundreds of spring breakers.
Two students from Troy University in Alabama were arrested last week and charged with sexual battery. Delonte Martistee, 22, of Georgia and Ryan Calhoun, 23, of Alabama have both been suspended, a school statement said. On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office announced the arrest of George Davon Kennedy, a student at Middle Tennessee State University, on same charges of sexual battery by multiple perpetrators.
Sheriff Frank McKeithen called it “one of the most disgusting, repulsive, sickening things that I’ve seen.”
“Within 10 feet of where this happened, there’s hundreds, hundreds of people standing there, watching, looking, seeing, hearing what’s going on,” McKeithen said.
Drinking has since been banned on the beach, however law enforcement officials in the Florida Panhandle community are seeking to extend the ban on beach drinking beyond April 18, the traditional end of the spring break season.
