Ashley McIntyre’s kidney love story is definitely an intriguing one centered around kindness and how helping a stranger can lead to the altar! McIntyre about a year ago volunteered to donate her kidney to a complete stranger that needed a kidney transplant, and today, she’s not only engaged to him, but their baby is also due in June.
According to McIntyre, in January 2014 she overheard her mother and grandmother talking about a story they listened to on the radio about a 25-year-old man whose father had died as a result of brain cancer and was in dire need of a kidney transplant. During the conversation, McIntyre’s mother said that considering all the horror’s he’s gone through, she would have willingly given him her kidney, except that she had health problems.
McIntyre however had type-O blood, which is the universal donor and one thing let to the other and she decided to donate her kidney to a complete stranger. “It was just like one thing after another for them,” McIntyre said. “I was like, ‘Well, I’m type-O and I don’t have any health problems.'”
McIntyre only met the man, Danny Robinson, when she confirmed she was a match, and when they finally met, she was nervous, thought the dude was cute, but never dreamed they would date. However, “As soon as we started talking, it was like our families had known each other forever,” McIntyre said. And today, the story of how they met has become history.
