New details have emerged regarding how a handful of terrorists killed almost 150 students within a short span of time with very light weapons, New York Times reports.
The Al-Shabaab militant group that invaded Nairobi’s Garissa University leaving hundreds dead, (click here if you missed it), were able to achieve their goals because they lied to the students in hiding saying that if they step out, their lives will be spared, according to a survivor’s account.
“If you want to survive, come out!” the militants yelled. “If you want to die, stay inside!” an account given by a survivor Ms Karimi, 23 who choose to disobey them and continue to hide.
“I knew those guys were lying,” according to Ms Karimi.
The students who obeyed and came out from hiding were asked to lie face down and the terrorist made some of them call their parents with their cellphone, telling that they were taken hostage and it was the payback for Kenya’s intrusion into Somalia. The students were later killed execution style with their back shot while lying face down on the ground.
The terror group used the massacre at Garissa University as a retaliation for Kenya’s military intrusion into Somalia. Kenyan military intruded into Somalia in 2011 to flush out the Al-Shabaab terrorist cells inside the country after numerous kidnapping in Kenya committed by the terror group.
