The ongoing African Youth Under 20 Football championship held in Senegal took an auspicious note on Wednesday, 11th March when Nigeria’s Eaglets defeated Congo 4 – 1 at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.
The win over Congo will ensure the super eaglets ten member team a berth in the FIFA under 20 World Cup to be held in New Zealand. This win also means our eaglets have qualified for the sixth consecutive world cup since 2005. In summary, the Nigerian youth team have qualified for the Under20 world cup for eleven times, including this most recent qualification.
The win over Congo has reaffirmed Nigeria’s position as a great sporting nation in soccer as the super eagle team has qualified for the World Cup many times before, including holding the title of the continent champion in the past.
