Another Staten Island’s Grand Jury indicted the man who filmed the unfortunate incident that led to Eric Garner‘s death, while the Officer Pantaleo in the heart of the killing was made to walk free.
Less than a month after Ramsey Orta filmed the unfortunate incident, he was indicted on weapons charges which stemmed from an arrest made by undercover officers in August. It was alleged that Orta had slipped a .25 caliber handgun into the waistband of a teenage accomplice’s outside a New York hotel. In Orta’s testimony, he claimed that he was falsely charged by the police officers to retaliate his video documentation of Garner’s death. However, the grand jury were not convinced about his statement and he was charged with single felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession and criminal firearm possession.
Ironically, the grand jury in Pantaleo’s case said there no probable cause that Pantaleo had committed any crime despite the fact that a medical examiner had ruled Garner’s death as homicide which resulted in part from the chokehold, a restraining move that was banned by the New York Police Department (NYPD) in 1993.
