Fantasy series, Game of Thrones has yet again broken yet another record. The Emmy-winning series released its season 6 trailer which has garnered an whopping 30 million views in less than 24 hours.
The first preview of the anticipated new season has been view up to 8 million times on YouTube and another 22 million on Thrones’ official Facebook page. HBO has confirmed that this is an all-time high for a trailer launch, surpassing with several hours to beat the previous high which was Thrones’ first trailer for season 5, which delivered 27 million views during its first day. Last year, the acclaimed drama went on to deliver record ratings, averaging 20.2 million viewers per episode when including streaming, repeats and DVR playback. The season 6 trailer new record suggests that this year’s episodes have the potential set viewership records once again for the network.
The trailer teased a massive battle sequence, fan-favorite characters such as Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Arya (Maisie Williams) in distress, and depicted Jon Snow (Kit Harington) dead following last season’s fatal cliffhanger.
Since the show’s narrative path is already going further than author George R.R. Martin’s novels for the first time, and four episodes leaked online before the season premiere last year, HBO is taking serious measures to protect secrets of the new season for example they have taken the highly unusual step of not sending any screeners to the press for the first time& before the April 24 season premiere on HBO.
