John Lennon’s hair has just been bought for 35000 USD (£24,000). The four-inch lock of hair had been cut as the Beatle prepared to appear in the 1967 film How I Won the War, a story about soldiers sent to create an ‘advanced area cricket pitch’ behind enemy lines in Tunisia.
It was sold by Heritage auctions among other memorabilia such as a signed photograph of the Beatles, which was sold for £30,000, and a sealed copy of the group’s ‘butcher’ cover for the Yesterday and Today Album, which went for £87.000.
Beatles memorabilia is still in high demand. In 2015, a Gibson acoustic guitar belonging to John Lennon sold for £1.7million and the group’s first ever recording contract, signed in 1961, was sold for £52,000.
The buyer of the lock of hair was UK-based antiques and memorabilia collector Paul Fraser.
