Bristol Palin announced last week that she is expecting her second child, in an emotional blog post:
“Honestly, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my chin up on this one,” she wrote on the website Patheos. “At the end of the day there’s nothing I can’t do with God by my side, and I know I am fully capable of handling anything that is put in front of me with dignity and grace.”
Until last month, Palin was engaged to Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, but the pair called off the wedding in May. according to Today!
Several days ago, the unwed daughter of former US Republican Vice Presidential candidate and former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin announced she was pregnant again, dropping another bombshell on the iconic conservative family that is a darling to the evangelicals and those preaching exemplary family values in America.
In 2008, the then 18 years old Bristol dropped the first bombshell by becoming pregnant while her mother was the running mate to Republican John McCain against Barack Obama. Her mother was an endeared conservative figure, advocating about Christian family values and often used gay bashing as an electoral catchphrase. She later give birth to a boy while still single.
According to Raw Story, columnist Dan Savage brought up an interesting comment on Bristol Palin’s out of wedlock pregnancy saying if she was President Obama’s daughter, the normally conservative mouthpiece, Fox Channel would have shamed the Obama’s mercilessly for their liberal views. The columnist thereby implied from his opinion that conservatives have a double standard when treating fellow conservatives confronted with unwed teenage pregnancy in their families and often harsh in their treatment of others, shaming their parents in the process by calling them ‘failed parents.’
Republican Presidential candidate Jeb Bush even called for the public shaming of unwed teenage mothers in 1995 in his book ‘Profiles in Character,’ according to Huffington Post when he was the Governor of Florida, before it was revealed that he smoked marijuana while in College, a fact hidden until he was outed by his former classmates recently, as reported by Times Magazine.
Bristol Palin has put the episode of her first pregnancy behind her, as she became a spokesperson for abstinence much in line with her mother who post- 2008, have written several books and earned appearances advocating evangelical family values and umpteen times spoken against gay marriage.
