In an interview on Sunday with CBS, British Prime Minister David Cameron defended the right of free speech, including what is being interpreted as ‘giving offense’ to other people’s religious beliefs. The Pope had earlier said in Manila, during the second leg of his Asian tour that there should be limits in criticizing others’ religious belief without direct mention or reference to the Charles Hebdo attack. David Cameron told CBS after meeting with US President Barrack Obama in the following statement: “I think in a free society, there is a right to cause offense about someone’s religion. I’m a Christian. If someone says something offensive about Jesus, I might find that offensive but in a free society I don’t have a right to wreak my vengeance upon them.”
He further continues: “We have to accept that newspapers, magazines can publish things that are offensive to some as long as it’s within the law.”
