Can you tell us about your upcoming show?
“I will be having my show tagged Life as I see it, A Rebirth on February 7, 2016, at the Convention Hall of Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. That I am still sitting down and taking is a proof that God exists. I am a living testimony about the handwork of God. I want to tell the story of God’s glory in my life. It will be an honour to glorify God for His faithfulness. I call it a second chance. Second chance is a rare privilege and I am not taking it for granted.
I was taken to the hospital, they tried everything and they said I wasn’t coming back. The doctor had said what had happened had happened they should put me in the morgue. When my sister said that was their report, the man of God also said that was their report and God gave me a second chance.
My calling is not for me to open a church but to continue to use my platform to glorify God, to honour and celebrate Him and convince people who have sold their souls to the devil to come over to the Lord’s side.
We will be having the Abuja version of the show on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) 2016, at the plush Transport Hilton, Abuja.
Award-winning American vocalist, Tye Tribbett will lead the team of music performers. The likes of Onyeka Onwenu, Timi Dakolo, Banky W, Waje, Efya, Bez, Mimiko and popular juju act, Yinka Ayefele will be playing that day.
Eddie Kadi, Okey Bakassi, Senator, Dan D’ Humorous, Seyi Brown, Buchi, Oyinbo Princess among several others are the comedians that will be performing.”
Why the theme, Life as I see it?
That is how I see life now. Before, I saw life in a different way but it is different now. God uses the foolish things and weakness of the world to bring us to our turning point. All the foolish things people have done, including mine, God is using them as my turning point. When the brain tumour came up, so many people abandoned me. Some people who are friends, some I thought would run to my aid left but I thank God nothing came out in the public that Julius De Genius Agwu needed money for brain surgery. Even some people stopped picking my calls. My perception of life is different now. That is why I chose that theme. It will be a life changing show.
What should your fans expect?
They should expect the show. I am also launching another book, Life as I see it. They should expect the launch of my album, Life as I see it as well. I featured 2Face, M.I and his brother, Efya and Yomi Sax.
I have a song, Rejuvenation, I released sometime back. It will also be out too. I have a series entitled, The Vendor, that will come out too. It is also a family show. My daughter will dazzle. She is six, she will dance. I want people to see that we can groom our children in godly ways and teach them family values.
Sometime back, you said you wouldn’t do a show in Lagos again. Why are you coming back to Lagos?
I used to have Crack Ya Ribs in December while Laugh for Christ Sake was on Easter Monday. I was invited by two of the Bruce brothers and Bola Salako to help them start Rhythm Unplugged. We started the show and it normally took place in June, July. It was a summer event. Later, they took it to December and it started clashing with Crack Ya Ribs. Somebody else brought his show to Sunday as well. I had to move to Abuja in other to avoid a fight.
Later, they came to Abuja and I left Abuja for London. They came to London too. Now, I am coming to Lagos and the show is bigger and better. It is a rebirth, my resurrection, a new thing that God is doing in my life, the rejuvenation of my brand.
Why the choice of artistes on the show. People are expecting A-list comedians?
“A-list must not be at every show. I am trying to grow a new generation of artistes. There are bundles of talents we have not shown to the world. Our government has not realized the way to use talents in order to rebrand the country. The international media has also not been fair to us. Everything they put out there is negativity. The little I can do is to develop these people, give them a platform.”
Is Julius Agwu still interested in politics?
I started a joke before the governorship election. I wanted to feel the pulse of the people to know how far. I put it out that I was contesting for governorship election in Rivers state. It was just a joke. I am not interested in politics. I want to be a king maker. I will support anyone going for a political office.
You look darker, what is happening?
I had a brain surgery. I was punctured and I am still healing. It is like motor wey knock engine. I never knew it was there. I was just losing weight. Tongues were wagging until I ended up in the hospital. The whole process made my complexion change.
