Video: Lauryn Hill Apologizes to Nigerians For No Show at ‘May Day Live’ Concert in Lagos With Live Rendition of ‘That Thing’
Lauryn Hill was slated to perform at the May Day Live concert in Lagos but, the Grammy Award winner was unable to make the trip because the concert promoters had failed to buy the flight tickets for her and her entourage…..unbelievable!
Knowing how disappointed her Nigerian fans will be, Ms. Hill took to Facebook with a personal message to her supporters to assure them that she would be coming over to Nigeria at a later date:
“Hello, Lagos. Listen, we’re very sorry we couldn’t be there with you tonight,” she said. “We were at the airport for seven hours yesterday, trying to get to you. But we’re gonna make it there, we’re gonna get there. We wish everyone a wonderful evening, and we’re gonna leave you with this.”
She also posted this apology message on her official website:
“Hello Lagos, Nigeria! We are disappointed to report that we will not be performing at tonight’s concert. From our end, we did everything we were supposed to do, including waiting at the airport for many hours, ready to fly out and share the evening with you. Unfortunately, after much effort, the promoter was not able to get all of our travel arrangements taken care of. This prevented us from being able to fly into Nigeria in time to make the concert. We were all very excited to come, and very disappointed that we couldn’t make this one. HOWEVER, we are working to reschedule our appearance ASAP. From what we’ve been told, the promoter intends to honor all tickets sold. Our best to and for Lagos. Love and Blessings!
Ms. Lauryn Hill and the MLH band and Production Team”
Hill then topped off the message with a beautiful acoustic rendition of her hit single “That Thing,’ which she did with her background singers and seven-year-old daughter Sarah Marley.
