Vatican Secretary of State on Irish Gay Marriage Vote: ‘you cannot just talk of a defeat for Christian principles, but of a defeat for humanity’

The Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin said during a conference on Tuesday, 26th May, that the Irish gay marriage vote of 62% approval is a ‘defeat for humanity’ and expressed his sadness over the outcome of the results, Italian News Agency Ansa quoted as reported by BBC News.
“The Church must take account of this reality, but in the sense of reinforcing its commitment to evangelization,” he said.
“I think that you cannot just talk of a defeat for Christian principles, but of a defeat for humanity.”
“The family remains at the centre and we have to do everything to defend it and promote it.
