Selena Gomez was definitely one of the first few celebrities to spark New Year’s Day controversies after she posted a picture taken at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi on Instagram. The photo showed the 22-year-old popstar and actress, flashing her ankle inside the biggest mosque of the country, which is the most visited place for worship.
As reported by TMZ , the mosque leaders considered the photograph as disrespectful and offending. Additionally, according to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’s website, the visitors ought to wear “modest, conservative, loose fitting clothing” while women are specifically instructed to wear “ankle length” skirts.
Since posting this controversial picture, the outrage and fury from the Islamic community has been overwhelming which probably made Selena delete the photo earlier today. Meanwhile, another photo of Gomez and her friends, including model Kendall Jenner, taken at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque can still be viewed on Kendall Jenner’s Instagram account.
