Researchers at the University of Illinois have discovered that having an optimist outlook in life compared to being a pessimist provides better overall health as reported by Daily Mail, UK. According to the study, optimists have a healthier heart, ideal body mass index, less likely to smoke, more physically active, ideal blood sugar level and lower cholesterol in their readings.
The key to being optimist, according to the researchers is our mental health and they recommend boosting our mental health so that it inevitably leads to better physiological health with less sickness.
The study which was published in the ‘Journal Behavior And Policy Review’ and involved about 5,000 adults in the US.
