Lorde apparently shipped a box of cupcakes to Joe Irvine, an aspiring singer. Joe, a contestant in the popular talent show ‘X-Factor New Zealand’, was “bullied” by the show’s judges who publicly humiliated him after his live performance.
Here’s Lorde’s note that accompanied the cupcakes:
Hi Joe, just wanted to say: your individuality, positive energy & spirit are infectious! I think you’re doing an awesome job on the show so far. I’m a performer too, & I wanted to say that no matter how many people make fun of me for how I dress, move & act, I’m being me — and that’s what’s important.
Good luck & lots of love, Lorde
Following Joe’s live performance-cover of a song, judge Natasha Kills accused him of totally copying the original artist’s style and made some really rude remarks regarding his performance describing it a ‘laughing stock’, ‘disgusting act’ and ‘artistically atrocious’. Another judge, Willy Moon commented: ‘I feel like you’re going to stitch someone’s skin to your face and then kill everyone in the audience.’
However, as you can see in the video below, Joe Irvine did not flinch and Lorde’s cupcakes and message to him will surely help the contestant boost his self-confidence:
