Kylie Minogue appears to have the upper hand in a legal tussle with superstar teen model and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner who wants ownership of the name ‘Kylie’ in the United States.
Jenner, 18, applied to trademark the name through the US Patent and Trademark Office last August and according to the World Intellectual Property Review, Minogue’s representatives filed a comprehensive notice of opposition a week ago.
Melbourne-based KDB Holdings argued that if Jenner’s application, which relates to “advertising services”, was successful it could cause confusion for fans of both Kylies and damage Minogue’s brand.
The company also cited several existing trademarks approved in the past 13 years, and registered in the United States, including “Kylie” (for use in entertainment and commerce), “Kylie Darling” (for a fragrance) and “Lucky – The Kylie Musical”.
