Kenyan’s government official Twitter account has confirmed that the death toll from the terrorist attack on Thursday, 2nd April on Christian students at Garissa University is now 147 with 79 injured and 587 evacuated to safety, as reported by CNN. The official Kenyan government account also confirmed that 4 gunmen were shot dead.
The latest attack by Al Shabaab is the deadliest so far since the terror group’s attack at the US embassy in 1998 which left 200 people dead.
Islamist gunmen burst into the university before dawn Thursday, shooting students and taking hostages during early morning prayer services.
“This is a moment for everyone throughout the country to be vigilant as we continue to confront and defeat our enemies,” Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said.
The other trademark attack of Al Shabaab was the Westgate Shopping Center in downtown Nairobi in 2013 where 67 were killed.
