Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner called it quits on their 10-year marriage last week, (click here if you missed it), but friends tell People Magazine the breakup was an inevitable one.
A friend told the magazine:
“They have both been very open about their marriage struggles,” another called the news “inevitable. If there’s any surprise, it’s how long it took to happen.”
One source said Ben came to Jen “and told her he had not been committed to the marriage within the past few years,” the source added, “Jen is a fighter. She would not give up unless there was a good reason.”
Another insider said constant rumors took their toll.
“She loved Ben. But there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough and take care of yourself.”
Meanwhile, another source said it was a mutual split.
“Saying he’s a bad father and a husband is an easy story, and everyone has wanted to clock him as a womanizer and gambler. He couldn’t deal with her expectations. When you’re told you’re not good enough, you start to believe it.”
The former couple plans to continue living together and co-parenting their three children. “It’s nice to at least try to move in a positive direction with your life,” said a friend of the former pair.
