Embattled Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has personally responded to an alleged sex scandal which has topped headlines in the local media in the last few days!
According to Ghana news outlet, OMGGhana, a 22 year old university student in Ghana, Sarah Kwablah, is threatening to make public a secretly recorded video when the Black Stars captain had sex with her in February as her relationship with the footballer is not going as she had initially envisaged.
The university student also alleged that the Al Ain striker got her pregnant following the intercourse and as a result, she is reportedly demanding that Asamoah Gyan gets her a furnished apartment, a housemaid and a monthly stipend of $1,000 for post-natal care.
Sports website, Goal.com further reported that Gyan’s lawyer Kissi Adjabeng confirmed that the two parties had sex, adding that the act was consensual between both of them. He however stated that his client doubts if the pregnancy is as a result of that encounter and has demanded for a paternity test. Sarah’s lawyer on the other hand, says they have filed new charges in relation to rape and sodomy.
Gyan who publicly broke his silence on this scandal stated that the recent development would not affect his career. In an interview with Accra-based Happy FM, the 29-year-old insists that his success story stems from his ability to overcome tough challenges.
“What has kept me going up to this time is my mental toughness. All through my career, I have always contended with obstacles whenever I’m trying to do anything but I never give up because I am mentally strong. I have not always had things running smoothly for me but I try to sail through,” he said.
“People may not know but my favourite genre of music is gospel. I listen to gospel songs every time and that is what inspires me and I sing them too,” Gyan added.
The player’s camp suspects the young girl is trying to blackmail Gyan with this recent development.
The case was reported first at the Odorkor police station in Accra and officials of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) are reported to have taken over the issue according to media reports.
