We reported earlier that escaped murderer David Sweat, who led law enforcement officers on a more-than-three-week chase, has been shot and was already in Police custody. Click here if you missed it!
The photo above was exclusively obtained by CNN and shows Sweat in custody moments after his capture. The photograph shows him bloodied, wearing a camouflage outfit and not the prison garb he must have been wearing at the time of his escape. He was captured in the town of Constable, in upstate New York, close to the Canadian border as reported earlier.
As of when we reported the news of Sweat being in police custody, the surrounding details on how he was captured was not publicly available but CNN has now updated the initial report saying that a New York State Police sergeant on roving patrol saw Sweat on Sunday, and the fugitive who appeared to be unarmed fled afterwards but was reportedly shot twice by the sergeant, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation.
Sweat was then transported to the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, an officer at the hospital told CNN. He is reportedly being transported to an hospital in Albany, NY for treatment of sustained gunshot wounds. As of this moment, his health condition is not immediately clear.
