The 7 footer hunky Hollywood actor and People Magazine’s Sexiest man alive, c, plays the role of a MIT hacker who is used by the US government to prevent the hacking of a nuclear reactor in Hong Kong in the recently screened cyber-terror thriller “Blackhat”
In this latest action packed movie by Director Micheal Mann, Hemsworth, 31, plays Nicholas Hathaway, who is educated hacker from a working-class family that was used by the U.S. government, after releasing him from prison, to have him work with the Chinese to help crack a cyberattack that caused a near meltdown in Hong Kong and combat the hackers in Asia trying to disrupt everything from the securities market to the nuclear facility.
The movie is a typical Hollywood – Asian fusion where a lot of kicking and punching was involved. It co-starred Asian heart-throb Wang Lee Hom who is a Taiwanese American actor and Chinese actress Tang Wei who played a Chinese government agent.
The movie now has some symbolic significance in Hollywood with the recent Sony cyber attack. Mann, the director of 1995’s “Heat” and 2004’s “Collateral” who is considered a master in depicting Hollywood thrillers, said the inherent drama of cyber crime and associated virtual vulnerability made it easy for him to depict the story. “The notion that you can be private and control what goes in and out of your life does not apply anymore,” Mann said. “That’s the new human condition.”
“Blackhat” – the term for a malicious hacker began screening in U.S. theaters on Friday.
