BOUQUI’s new video “Take you away” is simply impressive. BOUQUI, Born Bukola Folayan, grew up in an academic atmosphere “Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU, Ile-Ife)” Nigeria, which has served as a big influence for her deep lyrical style and cosmopolitan outlook. You can view her latest video below.
INTERVIEW with BOUQUI:
Golden ICONS:Menn, BOUQUI, you’ve done it again, your new video featuring Four Korners “Take you away” is dope and very inspirational. How did you come up with that concept?
BOUQUI: Thanks Bode…. Well the song itself was inspired by Deji, the lead vocalist of four kourners. I remember I was on tour in the UK and he kept saying he had an idea he wanted us to work on, and I was like dope since I know him and also their track record. We exchanged Ideas on the net and he sent the soundtrack to me, and I immediately wrote the lyrics for the song, and afterwards, bang we hit the studio. His brother engineered the whole thing and bang!!!!!!.. “Hence take u away”
Golden ICONS:We’ve known each other for many years now, and from what I can see, you seemed to have changed, and improved a lot. Could you please explain to your fans what motivates you and keep you going?
BOUQUI: I guess I have changed, I should or shouldn’t I? need to say that positive change is good, I think what drives me is the God factor that’s like soooo key in my life
I won’t say I owe it to hardwork or determination and focus… I would like to say all the good stuff… But I know that without God it would have been crazy, so I can’t take the credit….
Golden ICONS:I heard about your tour and performances in the states – Wooow – of all the places you went to, where would you like to visit again and why?
BOUQUI: Well the tour was really good and we are already thinking of part 2. I went from Maryland to Indianapolis, Brooklyn, Texas and the list goes on. I can’t say off the top of my head which one I like the most, but am happy with the first lap of the journey, the redefinition tour….. I mean it started in Baltimore on the 21st of Aug and moved all around till Dec 18th 09 and it was a blast.
Golden ICONS:Can you please talk a little bit about your current album, and let us all know what to expect from your next album, if it is already in works?
BOUQUI: The redefinition is my second album, 14 tracks produced in the UK, mixed by “Mix Master Jay” my bro and the first single “Morile” brought a lot of traffic to the project… The next video “take you away” was shot in Hampshire, UK…. The 3rd video was shot in Chicago …featuring Cobhams, but unfortunately he was not available during the shooting of the video. I am currently in Nigeria promoting the new video and the album that dropped in July 09 titled “Redefinition”…
BOUQUI’s Christian faith and strong belief in the words of God as laid out in the Holy Bible is however the factor to the formation of the Bouqui brand.
She is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University and an accomplished broadcaster at Eko FM, Lagos, Bouqui started her professional career with an all girl group called G-Vibes several years ago before going solo and changing her focus and style to suit urban contemporary Nigeria and still deliver in terms of message and emotion.
