According to a communique released by Suryardi Supriyardi, the Indonesian director of operations and salvage, only 37 bodies out of the 155 passengers of the ill fated Asia QZ8501 crash on Dec 28 have currently been recovered and the black box is yet to be found as divers continue to scramble for its recovery as of today, Time reports.
In an interview with Associated Press, Supriyardi explained that salvage operations are consistently being hampered by poor and inclement weather. Since it is still the monsoon season in Indonesia and Malaysia, daily inclement weather is expected to be the norm until middle of January. It was also mentioned that most of the victims were still strapped in their seat belts and most of the personal belonging such as their personal luggage have been found in the vicinity of the crash site, lending credence to the theory of aviation experts that the plane was intact when it hit the sea.
