CNN reports that at least 38 people have died in a boat accident in central Philippines, a few minutes after leaving the port. The boat, which was said be carrying over 180 people, capsized leaving 38 people dead, and 15 still missing. The commercial boat was set for Ormoc City in Leyte province to town of Pilar on Camotes Island, east of Cebu Island. However due to the accident, the trip was cut short.
In an interview with CNN reporters, Gordon, the Philippine Red Cross Chairman, commented that the boat had 189 on board, with 173 passengers, 15 crew members and the boat’s owner, whom he said survived the crash.
He continued that he doubted any foreigners were involved but that Red Cross staffs at the scene were checking the identities of those on board, including how many were children.
The remaining survivors have reportedly been taken to hospitals for treatment.
So sad….
