Finally, a movie titled Anchor Baby, for all the “Anchor Babies” and their immigrant parents all over the world.
A new movie entitled Anchor Baby which depicts the struggles of most “Anchor Babies” and their immigrant parents is currently in the post-production stage in Toronto, Canada. It is slated for release by December 2010.
“Anchor Baby” is a derogatory term for children born by immigrants or other non-citizens in the United States and other developed countries around the world.
The lead roles in the movie Anchor Baby, are played by Nigerian Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli as Joyce; Hollywood actor and former Tommy Hilfiger model Sam Sarpong as her husband Paul, and Canadian actress/songwriter Terri Oliver as Susan. The leads are supported by other excellent cast members such as Mark Cassius, Michael Scratch, Colin Paradine, Santiago Lopera and Cyrus Faird; just to name a few.

Synopsis:
Paul (Sam Sarpong) and Joyce (Omoni Oboli), a married couple from Nigeria become illegal immigrants in the United States after their entry visas expired.
Joyce is currently five months pregnant, and the couple intend to have their baby in the US, before returning back to their country. This act will guarantee automatic United States citizenship for their baby.
When they received their voluntary deportation order from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Paul convinces Joyce to disregard the letter and focus on their dream of having a baby who will become a US citizen. Paul is later caught and deported by the US immigration. Joyce, who had already promised her husband to do everything within her power to have the baby in the country goes into hiding. She struggles without any source of income and accommodation issues to fulfill their dream alone.
She meets Susan (Terri Oliver), a married freelance writer who offers to help her with accommodation until her baby is born. Joyce, accepts the offer. But, will she accomplish her dream before her time is up in the country.
The movie, Anchor Baby is set in the United States, but was shot in Brampton and Hamilton, Ontario Canada. The theme of the movie is about the desperation, struggles, betrayal and broken dreams, faced by these non-citizens in order to belong to the American society. Anchor Baby is written, directed and produced by a Nigerian first time director Lonzo Nzekwe.
