French Laundry at the Bay Area of San Francisco is one of the most expensive restaurants in the US and one of the most difficult places to get a table. But its proud owners witnessed an unfortunate event towards the end of the previous year, as they saw some of their best wines missing.
The thieves cracked a door open at the wine room of the property and made off with 76 bottles some of which had a retail price that is as high as $15,000, resulting in a total “loss” of almost $300,000. The break-in took place on Christmas Day after the restaurant served its last meals on Christmas Eve. Chef Thomas Keller posted on Facebook: “The French Laundry wine program is, as many of you know, singular and distinct. We look forward to rebuilding our cellar in the meantime and plan to get to the bottom of this disheartening act immediately”.
